Lifesavers paddle-out to honour Jeff
The paddle-out held in his honour saw about 50 lifesaving club members, nippers and friends gather at Scottburgh beach to pay tribute to Jeff.
Many South African have celebrated the re-opening of beaches.
It’s meant they now get to swim, surf, suntan, enjoy the fresh air and operate beach-related businesses again.
For others, however, it has meant a chance (finally) to pay respects to lost loved one in a fitting, beach-related manner.
A paddle-out was held last Sunday (7th) for Jeff Allan Oberholzer (67), a well-known Scottburgh resident who was also a long-time member of Scottburgh Lifesaving Club.
He died on December 31 last year, due to Covid-19.
The paddle-out held in his honour saw about 50 lifesaving club members, nippers and friends gather at Scottburgh beach to pay tribute to Jeff.
He was described him as a down-to-earth man, who was always in a good mood – happy, smiling and laughing.
Jeff was known for his kind-heartedness and generosity, always seeing the best in others.
He helped people and never expected anything in return.
Being a contractor, Jeff worked in many places in and around Scottburgh and was respected by the community.
Although he made Scottburgh his home, Jeff was originally from the Free State, born in the small town of Hennenman.
He fathered four children, Warren, Lisa, Mikaela and Cade.
The club honoured Jeff, with members remembering him as a person who loved nothing more than going for a surf with friends.
There will be a memorial service – family and close friends only due to Covid-19 restrictions – at Scottburgh main beach on Saturday, February 20 at 9am.
