Former Ugu District Municipality Deputy Mayor Mandla Chiya has joined the uMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP).

Chiya resigned from the ANC in July and joined the MKP on September 1.

“I joined the MKP voluntarily and will serve the organisation honestly to achieve its objectives and vision. I will abide by and uphold its constitution and serve it to the best of my abilities, and not sow divisions but forge unity among the members. I accept that the national leadership led by President Jacob Zuma can terminate my membership when they see that I am not working towards fulfilling the vision of serving the party to liberate South Africa and Africa,” said Chiya.

He committed himself to MKP unity and to grow it to win local municipalities in the Local Government Elections on November 4.

“We will not win the elections by being divided; we need MKP unity to win. Let us work on the ground and recruit more people. Now that I have been given a recruiter pack, I will start recruiting my family members and go to the community leaders who have been asking me which political party I would join after resigning from the ANC,” added Chiya.

MKP Regional Chairperson Dumbledore Ngubo welcomed Chiya. “He knows how to work the political ground. I appeal to all MKP members to support him. We need unity of MKP members to win the upcoming elections. MKP President Zuma commanded us to win all municipalities in Ugu District,” said Ngubo.

MKP Regional Secretary Londa Mkhungo also urged leaders and members to support Chiya.

“Chiya is not here for positions; he has joined the MKP voluntarily. Let’s unite and support each other to win the elections. Working together in unity, we will win all municipalities in Ugu region,” said Mkhungo.
