Marburg triumphs in sports tournament
Staff from the various stores competed against each other.
Rainy weather did not dampen spirits or entertainment at the Bargain Group sports day on September 19.
The Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre came alive as teams from the different stores took each other on in soccer and netball.
In the quarter-final games Marburg beat Harding 4-1, Legends beat Ingonyama 3-0, MIP beat Izingolweni 1-0 and Flagstaff beat Port Edward 2-1.
Semi-final action was scintillating, with Marburg edging out Legends 4-2 on penalties after the game had finished level on 3-3. And this after Legends had taken a 3-0 lead.
The second semi-final saw MIP beat Flagstaff 2-1.
The final was even more exciting, with Marburg winning 7-6 on penalties against MIP after the match had ended 1-1.
The netball was won by Flagstaff over Harding, with third place going to Bargain DC over Manaba.
There was also a 5km fun run, won by Asanda Malunga (Marburg), with Sthembele Tshude (Bizana Xpress) the runner-up and Samkelo Ntshangase (Bargain DC) in third place.
In the women’s race the winner was Akhona Mlonzi (Flagstaff), from Thandokazi Bandezi (Flagstaff), with Thulile Jalibana (Bargain Xpress) in third place.
