A gang of five men entered the home of an Umtentweni couple aged 75 and 52 on Thursday morning this week at about 10.50am.

The couple who asked not to be named, have been left shaken by the ordeal.

The men armed with knobkerries had managed to chisel out the glass of a window and enter into the home seconds after the home owner had left for the shop at about 10.50am.

The wife was sitting on her bed,busy on her tablet speaking with her children overseas, when three of the men walked into the bedroom.

“One of the men held her down and asked her for money, while the others ransacked the house. Her hands are swollen and bruised from them pulling off the jewellery. She is rattled but was thankfully not harmed. It could have been much worse,” said the woman’s husband.

“We think that this robbery was pre-planned and they had been slowly removing the wooden window fame in the far side of the house days prior to the incident,” he said.

Before the husband arrived home the gang fled on foot with many items, such as, a TV, radio, cellphone and laptop.

Captain Petros Mpinge confirmed that no arrests have been made at this stage.
