Academic excellence has always been a cornerstone of Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School’s vision. Highly qualified and dedicated educators guide learners to maintain a balance between their academic, sport and cultural endeavours.

GHS believes that it is imperative to educate the future generation of female leaders in such a way that they can take their rightful places in society and be well-equipped trailblazers.

It is interesting to note, however, that the expectation of a 100% pass rate in the National Senior Certificate Examination was not the norm until 1981.

Since then, the record has been almost perfect. Added to this is the school’s regular 95+% Bachelor’s pass rate. This is a wonderful reflection of both the aspirations and hard work of all young women at GHS and the quality of teaching.

Thanks to Google Classroom, educators were able to remain in contact with their class groups throughout the COVID-19 hard lockdown last year.  As such, online learning at GHS was born and proved to be a lifesaver in those times of adversity but never to replace the personal touch in the classroom.

In 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, online Information Sessions for both day girls and boarders will take place in the first term.

Parents who would like to apply to the school for their daughters for Grade 8 2021 are encouraged to book for one of these online sessions.
