The Class of 2020 has faced what was one of the most challenging academic years to date.
The hard lockdown that the country faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic cut down valuable teaching time in most schools.
Despite these challenges and the mental strain that it put on learners, the 2020 matric cohort displayed absolute diligence and perseverance.
Schools within the Ugu District managed to produce excellent results, placing Ugu as the leading district in KwaZulu-Natal.
Two of Port Shepstone High School’s learners placed in the top five learners within the Ugu District.
Jesheran Yengopal and Marko Thom placed third and fifth in the district respectively.

Sheppie High hosted a ceremony on Tuesday, where the top five learners in the district were awarded certificates and laptops for their outstanding achievements.
Port Shepstone Secondary learners produced exceptional results, upholding the school’s excellent academic record.
Principal Genganathan Odayar congratulated the school on its 94,5 percent pass rate.
“We have achieved distinctions galore, an enviable 181 in total, which against the backdrop of the challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, is exceptionally commendable” he said.

Nine of the school’s learners notched up A aggregates, despite some very difficult question papers in several subjects.
Scooping first position was Annika Chetty with seven As and a phenomenal 88.9 percent aggregate.
Wandile Nyawose came second with six As with an impressive 88.4 percent aggregate.
Ethan Luke Hammond came third with eight distinctions and an aggregate of 87.9 percent.

Adding to the distinctions, were other top candidates such as Zainub Abdulla Dhai who came fourth.
Shamishka Ramharak’s performance earned her fifth place in school with five As.
Following close on, Erin Rose Ramanna placed sixth and Sumamayya Moosa came seventh at school.
Skumbuzo Mhlengi Sibisi and Sibusiswe Fezeka Hadebe also achieved A aggregates with four As each.
Marburg Secondary were also very proud of its matric class who despite the challenges they were faced with, achieved a pass rate of 86,7 percent.
The school gathered an impressive overall amount of 217 subject distinctions.
Marburg Secondary’s top three learners are Sihle Potolwana (Five As), Lathitha Kiviet (Six As) with Krizelle Rhagunandhaw (Five As) and Ukuthula Sithole (Five As) who were tied for third position.
Port Shepstone Islamic School celebrated a great plenty of outstanding achievers with a total of 23 distinctions from the 15 learners who sat for the exams.
The school achieved a 100 percent pass rate, 93 percent being bachelor passes and seven percent being diploma passes.

The school’s top achievers are Noor-Muhammad Gani (seven As and an 86 percent aggregate), Sadiyah Nakooda (three As and an 80 percent aggregate), Ahmed Yusuf Ameen (three As and a 79 percent aggregate), Irshaad Aslam Khamissa (two As and a 75 percent aggregate), Wardah Madari (three As and a 74 percent aggregate) and Sabina Jogyat (two As and a 69 percent aggregate).

Southcity Christian College had 82 percent of matrics that achieved a bachelor’s pass.
The college’s top achiever’s include Sarah-Joy Pringle, McKayla du Bruyn and Jeandré Joubert.
Creston College achieved a 100 percent pass rate while 95 percent of its students qualified for university entrance.
Four learners achieved five As, namely Claire Haskins, Luné Arlow, Emily Wyatt-Minter and Alison Spencer.
Suid-Natal High School had 57 learners sit for the exams and achieved an overall pass rate of 98 percent.

Margate Middle School also excelled despite the challenges they were faced with.
The school achieved an 81 percent pass rate, and has maintained an 80 percent pass rate since 2011 when the first matric class commenced.
Collectively, the school bagged 32 bachelor passes, 42 diploma passes and 10 higher certificate passes.
