‘Not our staff’ confirms Eskom
Eskom's Media Desk responded saying that Saps from Southport Police station attended the scene on February 15, but no arrests were made.
Eskom has confirmed that there were people trying to connect illegally to the low voltage (LV) box in Sunwich Port last week.
This follows an article published in the South Coast Herald last week, regarding the ongoing illegal activity taking place in Station Road.
Eskom’s Media Desk responded saying that Saps from Southport Police station attended the scene on February 15, but no arrests were made.
“The LV box has been closed and locked and the trench that was dug up next to the LV box has been closed.”
Resident Johan Strydom had been enjoying a leisurely Saturday stroll, came across two men armed with a grinder, cables and a pick, trying to dig up the road in order to connect to a nearby electrical box.
He stopped and asked if they were from Eskom, and if they had a permit and why they had not barricaded the road.
The men said they were from Eskom, but then ran away, leaving the road in a mess.
Residents say this was not the first time something like that has happened.
Others have been seen trying to connect to two others boxes in the neighbourhood, one further down the road and another in a resident’s garden.
