Boy (8) assaulted by half-brother
At the time of the incident, the eight-year-old was living with his siblings and stepmother.
A teenager (16) who allegedly assaulted his eight-year-old half-brother numerous times at their home in Mabheleni area was arrested by Mehlomnyama police on Monday this week.
The teenager was later released into his parents custody.

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was opened for investigation by Mehlomnyama SAPS.
“It is alleged that on Saturday, February 27, 2021, the Mehlomnyama police received information regarding an eight-year-old child being abused. The police proceeded to Emabheleni area where they met a woman who said she was the mother of the child. She informed the police that the child was assaulted by another child with a towel. She promised to resolve the matter amongst the children.”
On Tuesday, MEC for Social Development, Nonhlanhla Khoza officially opened a case at Mehlomnyama police station.
The boy has since been taken to a place of safety.
A case of child neglect was also opened for investigation.
Both cases are being investigated by Port Shepstone FCS Unit.
The teenager will appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court today (March 4th).
