Double murder suspect on the run nabbed at Southbroom traffic lights
He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Umzinto SAPS detectives received information of a man suspected to be involved in a double murder case which had occurred in Umzinto and that he was fleeing to Lusikisiki earlier today (March 5).
“Police wasted no time chasing after the suspect,” said Margate SAPS spokesman, Sgt Sibu Ncane.
Detective Warrant Officer Steyn Moosamy, Sergeant Senzo Chiliza, Constables Bonga Chiliza and Sithembiso Gumede together with members from the SAPS Highway Patrol Unit as well as security companies stopped a taxi at Southbroom robots.
“A 29-year-old man was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm (Bersa) and two live rounds of ammunition,” said Sgt Ncane.
He was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and detained at Margate SAPS.
He is expected to appear in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s court soon.
The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine if it has been used to commit any other crimes.
