Ramsgate’s beloved peacock is no more
Everybody cared for him and Percy himself seemed to enjoy other people's company.
Ramsgate’s well-known peacock was tragically run over by a car on Sunday (February 28) at around 10.30am.
The incident occurred on the main road opposite the Ramsgate Lifestyle Village and unfortunately the driver did not stop.
Fondly known as ‘Percy’ or ‘Mr Peacock’, he would often visit the homes of residents nearby and spend some time with them.
Residents along with shop owners were shocked and devastated to hear the news as they all shared a special bond with Percy and felt blessed to have him around.
Some residents described him as a “free spirit who belonged to nobody yet belonged to everybody.”
It is a bit of a mystery as to where Percy came from originally, but he has been in Ramsgate for around four years.
Everybody cared for him and Percy himself seemed to enjoy other people’s company.
Percy had recently ventured out of Ramsgate while looking for a female to mate with.
He returned a few weeks ago without his tail feathers, a clear indication that he had found a mate.
Hopefully, he fathered a few peachicks during his travels, who are now running around with his genes.
Percy’s presence will be sorely missed as he would often grace people’s gardens with his resplendent presence.
