Homegrown comedy Dreamy Dave will spread cheer and upliftment
The man mentioned that he had been in his first movie at the age of 11, and hopes to continue making a mark in this tough industry.
The South Coast’s Park Rynie based movie production company, Boulevard Films, has just wrapped up the final auditions in the area for its latest feature film, Dreamy Dave, as it will be relocating offices to Amanzimtoti soon.
Executive producer, casting director and actor, Bruce Gounder, opened the auditions at the office last Wednesday to both experienced and enthusiastic aspiring actors.
“Besides shooting in the beautiful areas we live in, especially Scottburgh, we also want to give exposure to some of our talented locals by giving them an opportunity to be on screen. A majority of our movie extras are KZN locals,” said Bruce.
Among the many actors and actresses who came to audition was a talented 79-year-old man from the mid-South Coast who auditioned with his best Aussie accent to potentially earn the role of Horse, an Australian hotel manager in the feature film.

To assist Bruce with the final auditions was Les Smith, a well-known actor from Amanzimtoti, who starred in the popular TV series Imbewu: The Seed, and will be playing the role of Dreamy Dave’s employer in the upcoming feature film.
“These are very exciting times for a quiet area like the South Coast and I am grateful to work with Bruce and Nadhir Hurilal (executive producer) on this film,” said Les.
“This is a bright movie that we’re hoping will bring good cheer to everyone.”
Bruce said comedies are very much needed, particularly during this pandemic, as laughter is the best medicine.
“This movie aims at uplifting people through their worst times and the character Dreamy Dave deals with a lot of negativity and rejection on his journey to stardom, yet remains headstrong and keeps persevering,” said Bruce.
“This is the message we want to give to our audience… dare to dream and never give up hope, even in your darkest days.”
The production team was supposed to shoot the movie last year, but because of the challenges brought about by Covid-19, shooting for Dreamy Dave is now scheduled for June this year.
