Victims of house fire ‘overwhelmed’ by support
Donations included beds, clothes, furniture, bedding, food, supermarket vouchers, pots and pans and more.
Three families escaped unharmed from a house fire in Buck Drive, Ramsgate about three weeks ago – but all their belongings were destroyed.
Marika Bickerdike of non-profit organisation, KZN Hotspot put her feelers out in the community which resulted in a flood of donations to assist the destitute families.
It is alleged an electrical short circuit in the roof caused the fire.
The incident occurred while the families were asleep – a woman and her two daughters, a couple and a man and his son (3).
“I am in awe of the community, as they came together to help these families,” said Marika.
Donations included beds, clothes, furniture, bedding, food, supermarket vouchers, pots and pans and more.
Since the incident, each family has found accommodation.
“Everyone has been absolutely amazing, from businesses to individuals who stepped in to help,” she said.
Marika also thanked her husband and family for their support, from running around to pick up and drop off items.
She is no stranger to helping those in need, two years ago, she also assisted a family after a house fire in Margate.
“I love helping people,” she said.
