When trouble comes in threes…

Mike Eley and Geoff Thommasen made this week's Stone Contribution.

They say that troubles come in threes and there was no denying that last week at Scottburgh Golf Club.

Firstly, vice-captain Coenie du Bruyn was rushed to hospital.

Then, he was followed by Joe Verster who had chest problems and, finally. Captain Bob Hall had his knee operated on.

The good news is that Coenie is out and exercising with Hannlie behind him with a sjambok.

Bob is ‘taking the knee’ exercises and Joe successfully came through a triple by-pass.

As Shakespeare wrote: ‘All’s well that ends well’.

Winners of the Combined Stableford with hidden partners last Wednesday were Graham Brown and Wayne Simson on 68 points.

Two adrift were Tony Power and Mick Marriot, with Dave Sirey and Mike Hogan pulling in for third.

Mike Eley and Geoff Thommasen made this week’s Stone Contribution.

The members whose birthday fell in January, February and March were the sponsors for Saturday’s Birthday bash a combined effort from both men and ladies sections.

The new handicap system kicked in for the betterball Stableford and was evident with the lowest scores the Flyer has seen for this format.

The handicap ‘handicap’ didn’t bother Tony Power and Graham Brown as, once again, they cleaned up albeit with just 39 points.

Colin Moodie and Tony Kennedy unfortunately lost the count out and had to take second place with Denis Brown and Wayne Simpson managing third on 38.

Hayley Gilliver smashed the longest drive for the ladies and followed it up by getting nearest the pin on the 10th.

Not to be outdone husband Pete outdrove everyone on the 8th with Wayne Simpson getting nearest the pin on the 2nd and Tony Power claimed the 13th, not so unlucky a number.

This Saturday is the March edition of the Monthly Medal – would any business like to sponsor this event?

Flyer’s footnote: Once bitten by the golf bug it is akin to having your neck punctured in Transylvania – there is no known antidote.
