A ‘Bester’ future for Thinus

Suidie Ondersteuners is fully registered non-profit company at the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), registered as a non-profit organisation (NPO) with the department of social development as well as a public benefits organisation (PBO) with SARS.

Former deputy head-boy Thinus Bester (19) recently received his trademark cap and t-shirt gift at (Hoerskool) Suid Natal high School, as the Suidie Ondersteuners gave the school’s 2020 dux scholar a well deserved send off into the future.

Bester achieved six distinctions, in mathematics, physical sciences, life sciences, life orientation, English, as well as engineering graphics and design.

Bester believes his best years are still ahead of him, as he plans to enroll at the North West University (NWU-Pukke) in Potchefstroom.

“I plan on studying computer engineering. My time here (Suid Natal) was very good, although it struck differently when Covid-19 came. The beginning was excellent and during the pandemic we made the best of it. It wasn’t such a bad experience,” Bester said.

“The learners all became close to one another because there weren’t any distraction to drag us apart.”

Former head-boy, George Allison who served the school in 1976, was there to hand over the regalia to the dux scholar along with school headmaster, Jakkie Herbst.

Suidie Ondersteuners is fully registered non-profit company at the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), registered as a non-profit organisation (NPO) with the department of social development as well as a public benefits organisation (PBO) with SARS.

“We believe that children should not be hungry at school, have the basic necessities, and that they should able to participate in school activities. Assisting with the basic needs of children we believe that they will have an equal chance in life to succeed,” said Louis Nortje, media liaison for the Suidie Ondersteuners.

“We are definitely not an organisation limited to just old scholars, but to any person or company who supports Suidie Ondersteuners. Support could be in any form of financial donations, assisting at fund raisers/activities, help with marketing, spreading the word to friends and other parties or even advice,” Nortje said.
