Recovery movement chairman celebrates sobriety

Emmanuel Msomi, chairman of Laqhakaza Ipara Recovery Movement, recently celebrated his sixth year of sobriety with family and friends at a local Scottburgh restaurant.
The group celebrated with a night of “recoveraoke” which was Emmanuel’s version of karaoke to mark his recovery anniversary.
A cake cutting was also done, much like one would for a birthday party, as Emmanuel believes that his sobriety anniversary is as special as a birthday.
“I appreciate the way the world accepted me back into life after my 15 years of pain and suffering with addiction,” he explains.
“After following the 12-step programme, each recovery anniversary is celebrated because it feels as though a new person was born the day I changed my habits.”
Emmanuel gives thanks to NA/AA fellowships of recovery, Scottburgh Saps, Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court, the Umzinto Social Development team, Umzinto Correctional Services, NPS Recovery Centre, Ceders, Sitholimpilo, Panorama and South Coast rehabilitation centres, Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town and the UK fellowships of recovery, as well as the public who chose to support and choose his recovery movement, Laqhakaza Ipara as a solution for struggling addicts.
Thanks is also given to Scottburgh based NPO, Iziko African Radio for giving the recovery movement a weekly recovery talk show slot every Thursday from 7pm to 8pm which is used to to pass on messages of strength and hope to addicts.
“I am so blessed and grateful for the support I have received for this movement and for me personally, and I assure the public that I will pull through with even more years of sobriety and help others achieve the same.”
