When will trenches be repaired?
The Herald contacted the fibre optic contractor, Frogfoot who said in a statement that:
Trenches dug across the road to lay fibre optic cables in Naude Lane, Umtentweni have not been resurfaced to the ire of residents living there.
“This is now becoming beyond ridiculous seeing that our vehicle tyres and rims are being damaged as there is no other way for us to get into our complex other than to drive through three trenches which the fibre optic contractors dug across Naude Lane,” said a resident.
“They just keep on filling them with sharp edged stones which get driven out and then the trenches become deep with sharp edges,” added the resident.
He also said residents were told that meetings were held and an agreement was reached that any dug up areas would be fixed within 48 hours.
However, he said this has not been the case.
A previous complaint to have the problem sorted out only resulted in the stones being swept back into the trenches. But in a day or two they were out again.
“Can we have this problem sorted out,” he said.
The Herald contacted the fibre optic contractor, Frogfoot who said in a statement that:
“The situation has been escalated to the contractors in Port Shepstone who are currently underway with the deployment of fibre. They will attend as soon as possible to ensure everything is restored to its original state.”
