Paramedics treated a man, in his late 30’s, who sustained 100 percent second and third degree burns after he got electrocuted in a high voltage transformer room in Port Edward last Friday.

Unfortunately he died around midnight that same evening.

Glen Preston of Med-Evac said it was unclear what the man’s intentions were going into the the transformer room, but he cut the two earth cables on the medium and low voltage sides of the transformer.

“They suspect that he then slipped, fell and grabbed onto the bushings of the medium and low voltage sides of the transformer shorting out 11 000 volts and being burnt by the flashover.”

According to Wikipedia, an arc flash (also called a flashover) is the light and heat produced as part of an arc fault, a type of electrical explosion or discharge that results from a connection through air to ground or another voltage phase in an electrical system.

He proceeded to trip out the main breaker in Port Edward.
