Eagle attacks dogs

An adult crowned eagle attacked two small dogs in separate incidents in the Manaba area last Friday, one unfortunately did not survive.
Veterinarian Leon Brüggemann said the eagle was still in a tree in their yard an hour after the event.
“Please be aware of the dangers, and keep your pets safe, preferably indoors or in a courtyard unless under supervision. Do not hurt the eagle, as much as we would all be devastated if it was one of our own pets affected,” he said.
These eagles are under severe threat due to human encroachment on their environment, and are a protected species.
“Their usual prey includes mainly monkeys, dassies and hadedas, but they have been shown to be opportunistic and take small pets at times. Please be careful!”
