Soap box derby day for Margate Cubs

They had loads of fun the day before, building the car as a pack with the excitement building for the next day's race.

The 1st Margate Scout Group, Cubs and Meerkats participated in a mini soap box derby at BP Park in Durban last Sunday.

As a pack, the Cubs had to make a mini soap box car made from recycled materials that was no heavier than 500 grams and not longer than 20 centimetres.

They had loads of fun the day before, building the car as a pack with the excitement building for the next day’s race.

The Cubs decided to go with a pirate ship named The Flying Cub.

They won in the most creative category and came third in the speed category.

It was a little easier for the Meerkats as they could each make a mini soap box car at home with some help from their parents.

They really tried their best but it was evident that dads are more competitive than Meerkats.

However, it was all in good spirit and everyone came out as winners with new friendships formed.

Cubs and Meerkats meet at the 1st Margate Scouts Hall in Uvongo every Saturday at 3pm.

Cubs finish at 5pm and the Meerkats finish at 4.30pm.
