Village Eagles fly high at Umdoni after stormy weather
After the heavy rain storms of the previous week, the grounds staff must have worked extremely hard to get the course so perfectly playable.
Unlike the planes that belong to a bankrupt airline, they just cannot stop the Eagles from flying.
On the day that the Eagles were supposed to take off, the heavens opened and the trip around Umdoni Golf Course had to be cancelled.
But thanks to the enthusiasm and efficiency of Gus Crous, the society’s administrator, a new date was organised within one hour of the cancellation.
This resulted in the Village Eagles staging another successful golf day one week later than planned. This time in perfect golfing weather.
The condition of Umdoni golf course on the day has to be applauded. After the heavy rain storms of the previous week, the grounds staff must have worked extremely hard to get the course so perfectly playable.
The handicap and stats man, Clive Melville, is going to have a busy couple of weeks before the next game sorting out some golfers who have obviously been taking lessons on the quiet.
One such golfer goes by the name of Dave Coward. Dave won the Best Male Golfer trophy with a score of 47 individual points.
On a much more respectable 41 points Terry Bacchus took away the Best Lady Golfer prize.
Thanks to the fact that we have such willing sponsors the Eagles can present no less than nine prizes on our golf days.
We really appreciate the support we get from these generous people.
Of the nine prizes the top prize was collected by Eddie Matthews, Dave Coward, Henry Hampson and Noel Jessop on a record breaking 101 points.
As already mentioned, it is doubtful whether these four swingers will play off the same handicaps at Umkomaas next month.
