Walk in park for Gillivers

Apart from a couple of fairways still feeling the effects of the rain, the course is otherwise in good condition.

It was all hands to the decks at Scottburgh Golf Club last Sunday as the members got together to clean up the course after the heavy rains.

The tee markers were also given a new coat of paint as were the distance markers, all ready now for the sardine run which starts on Thursday.

John Mills turned the clock back last Wednesday as he won the Individual Stableford with 39 points.

Mitch Hampson ran him close with 38 and Hilton McAuliffe was third with 37.

John Mills rolled in a 2-club along the way with Pete Morris and Mikhail van Brakel.

It’s been a while since Dave Sirey picked up the Stone, but on Wednesday he was reintroduced to it.

It was monthly medal time on Saturday with our country members joining us as a warm up for the upcoming Sardine Tournament.

Apart from a couple of fairways still feeling the effects of the rain, the course is otherwise in good condition.

In the A division, Jason Gilliver had a flat round of 69 to win the best gross and fellow fourballer Darren Walker took the nett and the June medal with 66.

Captain Bob Hall claimed the B division gross with 83 and Darren’s dad Ian was not going to let the lightie brag to mom as he took the nett prize with 73.

Brian Richards managed 33 points in the C division to win by one from Mike Hogan – Mike also finding the hidden holes.

The fourball of the Gillivers, Pete and Jason, coupled with Ian and Darren Walker won the Alliance with 93 points.

Di and Stuart Pithey down from “Joeys” with Les and Leigh won something but the Stone was their prize, Di making the most of it by taking a picture to send back to friends up there.

The ladies section played a combined Stableford and winning on a good score of 66 were Pathma Moodley and

Hayley Gilliver who beat Alex Morris and Esme Hadley by one.

Flyer’s footnote: Hazards attract, fairways repel.
