Naickers take top spot in Alliance League

The Naickers’ team comprised of Tom and Dean Naicker, Kuben Naidoo and Chris Pillay.

Near perfect conditions greeted the 64 players who contested the fourth edition of the 2021 Alliance League at Umkomaas Golf Club on Saturday. A gentle breeze and warm weather certainly would have made for great scores one would have thought and yet the winning scores were not as high as we’ve become accustomed to. Perhaps another indication that the introduction of the percentage allowance for team competitions is doing its job in curbing unreasonably high scores?

‘The Naickers’, team comprised of Tom and Dean Naicker, Kuben Naidoo and Chris Pillay took top spot with 83 points. Just one point behind where ‘Ballies Rule’, Rex Parsons, Brian Stephen, Mike Flack, and Raj Rampathy, on 82 points. The ‘Umkomaasters’ were counted out of third on 81 points by ‘Par Patrol’, made up of Devlyn Fraser, Norman Mackay, John Webster, and Don Bradshaw.

Wednesday Results: Graham Coxell came first on 37 points, Ken Koster took second place with 35 points, and Dave Mulroy counted out Simon van den Bosch on 34 points for third and fourth, respectively.

The Umkomaas ladies took on Selborne in the third round of the 2021 South Coast Region league at Amanzimtoti. The number one pairing of Evija McKelvey and Natalie Singer emerged victorious 1-up after a tight up and down game against SCR President Leanne Parsons and her partner Michelle van der Merwe. The second and third pairings lost a few holes early on and turned three down, and despite fighting to keep the match going, lost on the 17th hole 3 and 1.

All at #thefriendliestclub send best wishes for a speedy recovery to new member Brian Kassel who suffered a medical emergency requiring major surgery whilst in Johannesburg last week. Whilst it will take some time for a full recovery, we are delighted to hear that he is making good progress and we look forward to seeing him soon.
