Suspect arrested for Umkomaas murder

The murder victim was reported as a missing person on June 26 and his lifeless body found in the bushes of New Haven Eagle Road, Umkomaas on June 29 at 12:00.

Police have arrested a male suspect (40) believed to be involved in the murder of a man (36) in Umkomaas last week.

The body was discovered while Port Shepstone Saps Search and Rescue unit searched the area for the missing person, and Saps dogs Bear and Ferie were able to recover the body from dense bush.

“The victim appeared to have been assaulted,” said Colonel Thembeka Mbele of the KwaZulu-Natal Saps Media Centre.

“An arrest was made and the accused made his first appearance on July 1 at the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court.”

The murder accused is expected to reappear on July 8.
