Protest action and looting in Umzinto unfolds

Protest action continues in Umzinto and the admins of the Umzinto Updates group warns locals to stay away from the Umzinto area as it is currently unsafe.

Protest action in the Umdoni area began during the early hours of this morning (July 12) as a crowd gathered in Umzinto and attempted to loot a big retail store around 01:00.

According to WhatsApp group Umzinto Updates, police were on the scene and dispersed the crowd.

A few hours later around 07:00, it was confirmed that several other stores in the Umzinto CBD were being looted and in the words of many Umzinto residents “Umzinto is under attack”.
