PROTEST ACTION: Shops and roads closed in and around KZN South Coast

Residents are urged to stay at home today.

Alleged ‘pro-Zuma’ protesters have closed several roads on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast this morning.
 
This comes as unrest has spread across South Africa with supporters of former President Jacob Zuma calling for his release from prison, where he has started serving a 15 month sentence for contempt of court.
 
Residents are urged too stay at home today and not risk travelling. 
 
Road situation summary: 
 
 * Port Edward
– Umtamvuna Bridge open and clear
– Edwardian/Banners Rest crossing clear
– Port Edward Robots all Clear
 
 * Leisure Bay/Glenmore
– Leisure Bay South entrance clear
– Torquay turnoff clear
– Fisherman’s turnoff clear
– Tongazi Caltex remains closed
 
 * Munster
– Munster turnoff clear
 
* Palm Beach
– Palm Beach turnoff clear
 
* Trafalgar
– Trafalgar entrance all clear
 
* Shelly Centre, Southcoast Mall and other shops are also closed.
 
* Everyone is asked to avoid the area of Port Shepstone.
 
* Large crowd moving past Rocky Ridge (Ramsgate) heading towards Fascadale Road in Ramsgate.
 
* A nature reserve near Izotsha has been set alight.
 
* Various petrol stations along the coastal roads have also closed.
