Hawks recover 9mm pistol with ammunition
A joint operation was conducted by the Port Shepstone based Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Tactical Response Team and Public Order Police.
Sandile Shazi (41) recently appeared in the Ezingolweni Magistrate’s Court for being in possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition.
Police received information about a man who was in possession of an unlicenced firearm at Emahlabathini area in KwaNyuswa.
A joint operation was conducted by the Port Shepstone based Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Tactical Response Team and Public Order Police.
Police spokesman Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said a 9mm pistol with a round of ammunition was found after a search was done at a place of residence.
Shazi was immediately placed under arrest and charged accordingly.
The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of any crimes in the country.
His case was postponed to August 30 for a formal bail application.
