Eagles raise money for charity

Some years ago, Umdoni golf course was rated as one of the fun golf courses you have to play as a golfer.

Each year round about this time, the Village Eagles get together at Umdoni Park Golf Club in order to raise money for those less fortunate than ourselves.

This year was no exception, except for the fact that more money was raised than ever before! Thanks to many visitors joining us for this fund raising event the amount raised exceeded all expectations.

Our thanks must go to the management and staff of Umdoni Golf Club.

The golf club is our main sponsor for the day and without their generosity and assistance our day would not have been as successful as it was.

Special thanks to Veni Kallie and Pam Pillay in the pro shop who always practice such patience when booking in eager golfers and who balanced the books so efficiently at the end of the day.

They say that ‘in giving you will receive’ or something like that, but for us it was a case of receiving first. We received the gift of good health wrapped up with good weather and sealed with good friendships. Who can ask for anything more? We look forward to making the funds raised available to those who need it most.

Some years ago, Umdoni golf course was rated as one of the fun golf courses you have to play as a golfer. Well, the winners of the Charity Day competition sure had some fun.

Scoring a Village Eagles record of 103 points for their alliance total Derek Hodge, Brian Kidd, Lass Skea and Sarel Swart made those who think that golf is a difficult game think again.

Best male golfer Athol Lawrence and Best lady golfer Tinks Arde will also have to hide from the handicap controller as they both recorded individual scores of 45 Stableford points. Well played all of you, but please remember that golf, like roulette, has a habit of biting back.

A great day for a good cause enjoyed by all. Let’s hope that next year we will once again break all records.
