Pipeline upgrade to benefit thousands

Ugu District Municipality Mayor, Councillor Sizwe Ngcobo, officially unveiled the first of a series of completed pipeline projects, done by the municipality’s water services unit.

More than 3000 households in the Margate and Gamalakhe areas, among others, are set to benefit from upgrades to the bulk main water pipeline.

Ugu District Municipality Mayor, Councillor Sizwe Ngcobo, officially unveiled the first of a series of completed pipeline projects, done by the municipality’s water services unit.

“Over and above the completed projects, the municipality has invested in various other bulk water supply upgrades,” he said.

The southern main’s water supply scheme currently provides portable water to about 100 000 people, with the completed phase 01 providing water supply to more than 13 000 people in Gamalakhe.

“We are also proud that 41 local people were employed by the contractor during the construction of the project. This re-affirms government’s efforts towards fighting inequality, poverty and unemployment as an economic interdependence phenomena.”
