Three die in horror morning crash near R61 Ramsgate offramp

Two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, with one catching alight.

Three people died in a crash near the R61 at Ramsgate offramp this morning.

Craig Botha of Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service said that when emergency services arrived they found that two vehicles had been involved in a head-on collision, resulting in one of the vehicles to catching alight.

“Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that three of the occupants had sustained fatal injuries,” he said.

Botha thanked the towing services for quick action as they were able to keep the flames from spreading until fire and rescue department services arrived and extinguished the fire.

He explained that due to the extent of the damaged vehicles rescue services had to use specialised rescue tools to free the deceased occupants.

The cause of the collision is not known, but Saps is investigating.
