Retired teacher sentenced for sexual assault
The accused inappropriately brushed his hand on the complainant’s thighs during a one-on-one lesson.
A former teacher in the mid-South Coast was convicted of sexually assaulting a minor and sentenced at the Scottburgh Regional Court last Thursday.
The teenage complainant attended after school tuitions at the retired teacher’s house when the incident occurred last year.
The accused inappropriately brushed his hand on the complainant’s thighs during a one-on-one lesson.
Immediately after the lesson, the complainant informed her mother of what transpired and her mother opened a case at Scottburgh police station.
After many court appearances, the accused chose to plead guilty, apologised to the complainant and stated that he is remorseful for his actions.
The accused was sentenced to pay a fine of R30 000 or face 18 months’ imprisonment. He was sentenced to a further 18 months’ imprisonment suspended for five years.
The accused’s name has been entered into the national sex offenders registry.
