Concern over landfill site
An article written more than a year ago also raised concern of the landfill site reaching its full capacity.
Growing concerns have been raised by the Ramsgate Conservancy about Oatlands landfill site reaching its maximum capacity in December.
Ray Nkonyeni Municipality spokesman, Simon April says that according to the report they have, the airspace on the Oatlands Landfill Site will reach its capacity by December 31, 2021.
“This situation is receiving the attention it deserves and is being handled by the office of the municipal manager,” said Mr April.
However, the conservancy says that council has done nothing and there is a serious crisis looming.
Renowned conservationists heading up the conservancy say there is an offer from a private company to finance and handle the entire process in a partnership agreement.
They pointed out that it would take three months to prepare the new site, with lack of funds being the problem.
An article written more than a year ago also raised concern of the landfill site reaching its full capacity.
The article published in September 2020, mentioned the municipality was not currently preparing for a new site as ‘the phases of RNM landfill could handle the waste up to January 2021’.
