Ruling party wins most wards in Umdoni

Now that the local government elections are done and dusted, winning parties (as per the ballot sheet) have since taken over several wards in the Umdoni area and respective candidates have taken charge.

In the Umdoni area, the African National Congress (ANC) took 44.15% of the total votes and earned 17 seats in the Umdoni council.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) followed with 17.9% of the votes and seven seats, and the third party with the most votes was the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) with 14.02% and five seats.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) earned five seats, and the Allied Movement For Change (AM4C), Abantu Batho Congree (ABC) and Al Jama-Ah (ALJAMA) parties each earned one seat.

The ANC won 15 wards in Umdoni while the DA took four wards.

Ward 3: Mthandeni Enock Mbutho (ANC).
Ward 4: Mphiwe Andreas Mbanjwa (ANC).
Ward 5: Gideon Mandlenkosi Phungula (ANC).
Ward 6: Lungisa Reggie Dlamini (ANC).
Ward 7: Welcome Stembiso Mthwane (ANC).
Ward 8: S’phelele Ewart Horatio Mngoma (ANC).
Ward 9: Phila Elvis Thabethe (ANC).
Ward 10: Edwin Victor Baptie (DA).
Ward 11: Princess Nonhlanhla Nombika (ANC).
Ward 12: Shamila Sookhraj (DA).
Ward 13: Ravinand Samlall Maharaj (DA).
Ward 14: Bhekani Antony Cele (ANC).
Ward 15: Shara Singh (DA).
Ward 16: Mbali Judith Cele (ANC).
Ward 17: Nonhlanhla Lady-Peace Nkomo (ANC).
Ward 18: Theresa Nokulunga Nzama (ANC).
Ward 19: Solly Vincent Khanyile (ANC).
