Security plan for Umzinto CBD as crime escalates

The UBSC's plan is that the induna rolls out one guard for every eight stores or buildings.

After the July looting, the Umzinto Business Sector Committee (UBSC) has noticed that crime in the Umzinto CBD has escalated, particularly theft from stores, delivery vehicles and customers.

Adam Ally, management member of UBSC from Fantastic Trading, has run a pilot project by employing an induna who will be responsible for employment and management of guard/s in the area.

The UBSC’s plan is that the induna rolls out one guard for every eight stores or buildings.

The cost of the guard is R800 a week, divided among the eight stores which makes it an average of R100 a week per store, depending on the size of the stores.

This could be negotiated between the cluster stores and the designated induna.

The UBSC plans on implementing this as soon as possible to make Umzinto a safe and secure place to live in and shop at.

Bhai Plaza CEO Ahmed Kadwa has also committed to using an induna for the mall and will be implementing the rollout from December 1.

For more information contact the UBSC secretary, Himal Gangaram on 073 2567855.
