It was a time for celebration and jubilation last week at St Martin De Porres Comprehensive School in Port Shepstone, as teachers, parents and school children alike were present for the graduation ceremony of the Grade R class of 2021.
The ceremony took place in the school hall, as eight special needs Grade R learners were celebrated after having finished the year, and are now ready to start primary school early next year.

The days festivities began with an opening prayer from Victor Nkonzo and a welcome from Shikeer Sookdavu.
The guest speaker was Pastor Kevin Armugam, who was ordained at Christ Fellowship as an assistant partner and has been a member of St. Martin’s for 16 years.
Armugam spoke on the importance of children not only in the church, but also in life.
“Children are not to be taken lightly because they are the future. Even if I were to give you a gift of the highest value, it can never amount to the value of your own child,” Armugam said.

The attendants were then treated to a traditional Zulu dance from the Grade R boys and girls, before a game of sign language charades was played by some of the parents in attendance.
The graduation presentation then commenced, and the children were handed certificates as they prepare for Grade 1.
