House robbers handed time for their crimes

Some five years ago, a Port Edward couple were fast asleep when they were awoken by the sound of breaking glass.

Two unknown men entered their home, brandishing a crowbar and demanded money and valuables. They fled with a television .

Police spokesman Sergeant Sibu Ncane said investigations by Port Edward detective service led to the arrest of the suspect in 2018 and the recovery of the stolen property.

In another separate incident, Zitha Nzimande (30) was convicted and sentenced in the same court to four years’ imprisonment for housebreaking and theft, three years for possession of unlicensed firearms and twelve months for possession of unlicensed ammunition.

During December 2018, he broke into a residence and stole a number of firearms, laptop and ammunition.

Ncane said that intensive investigation by Port Edward detective service to recover the firearms led to the arrest of Nzimande and the recovery of the stolen property just five days after the incident occurred.

Warrant Officer Jabulani Nzimakwe was the investigating officer in this case and was congratulated by station commander of Port Edward Lieutenant Colonel Phindile Mabaso for the hard work in both cases which resulted in these successful convictions.
