Man shot in head during robbery

Police spokesman Sergeant Sibu Ncane in a statement said, “A security guard sustained a serious gunshot wound during the robbery and was tied up.”

A business robbery case has been opened for investigation at Saps Port Shepstone after a local sand and stone business was robbed last Thursday night.

According to the owner, the incident occurred in the business yard between 11:30 and 01:30.

He added that one of the security guards who is employed by the business was working inside one of the trucks and was shot in the head during the robbery.

The truck which was targeted during the robbery last Thursday.

“They fired four shots, three missed but the fourth one hit him in the head,” the owner explained. He confirmed that the man is now out of hospital.

The owner explained that the unknown men tried to gain access to the truck by shooting through the window.

“The truck is fitted with smash and grab and so it did not shatter. That’s when they used a crowbar to break through the window,” said the owner.

According to Ncane, it is alleged that at least four unknown men gained entry to the premises and searched the truck and office for cash which they took, as well as heavy duty tyres.

Heavy duty tyres were stolen off the truck.

The owner also commended Saps and the forensics team, who he believed were very efficient in attending to the scene.

There is added speculation that the robbery could be linked to a syndicate operation and Ncane confirmed that these allegations are being investigated.

Attempted murder charges are also being investigated.
