Business sector aims to uplift Umzinto after July unrest

Chairman Roy Singh stated that the business sector committee welcomes all organisations to unite and work together towards a better Umzinto.

In August, the Umzinto Business Chamber and other stakeholders collaborated and decided to form the Umzinto Business Sector Committee (UBSC) with the aim to uplift the community and businesses after the unrest and riots in July.

The extensive damage, looting and destruction in Umzinto left most businesses, formal and informal, without any means of opening their doors. The UBSC has been helping businessmen deal with these matters.

Chairman Roy Singh stated that the business sector committee welcomes all organisations to unite and work together towards a better Umzinto.

The UBSC has been dealing with many pressing issues in the area relating to safety, security and assisting businesses.

Since its establishment, several committee meetings have been held to discuss ways in which members can better the Umzinto economy, and work is still underway to get it restored to its glory days.

Most businesses in Umzinto have since reopened and are trading as usual, but the UBSC mentioned that it will be a while until everything reaches 100% operational like it should again.

The UBSC also intends to engage with SAPS, RTI and Umdoni Protection Services, and all involved with security to work together to curb crime in the area.
