Maritime museum unveils magnificent murals

The museum is located on the Port Shepstone beachfront.

The Port Shepstone Maritime Museum recently unveiled two new murals and invites the public to view the spectacular artwork that was painted by local and professional artists.

Located at the Port Shepstone beachfront next to the Kapenta Bay Resort and Holiday Getaway, the unique visual art murals at the museum reflect historical themes, cultural images and landscapes that engage social content and looks to integrate communities.

Work began on November 29, and the murals took 12 days to complete, as renowned artists Welcome Danca, Lalelani Mbhele and Joseph Manana also supervised and mentored local artists to complete the artwork well before the unveiling.

“We believe the public will be proud to learn from these murals that bring joy, peace and heals the wounds of the catastrophic Covid-19 pandemic, and bring awareness of HIV/Aids, climate change, and gender-based violence,” said museum curator Phumzile Dlamini.
