Members of the Saps Horse Unit were treated to breakfast in Southbroom last week.
Local businessman, Paul Reynolds arranged with Brigadier William Slabbert, station commander at Margate Saps for a visit to Coffee on the Square.
The riders, Lt Col Lucas Sithole, Capt Shaun Chetty, Sergeant Thulani Gasa, and Constables Freedom Taylor, Ntuthuko Magutshwa, Nadeem Shaik, and Gugu Vilakazi, accompanied by Warrant Officer Jonathan Langeveldt enjoyed breakfast sponsored by the owner Barrie Barnard.
Residents and visitors interacted with the horses and fed them carrots.
“The residents of Southbroom thank the Margate Saps and Saps Horse Unit for visiting us and the excellent relationship we have built with them,” said Reynolds.
He also added that when Southbroom Community Policing Forum started in 2006, there were 199 break-ins for the year, and in 2020-2021 there were four break-ins in the area.
The town has installed more than 38 cameras in the village and have number plate and facial recognition cameras at the entrances.
“Southbroom is now known for its safety and security.”
This in turn has made it a desirable village in which to own property and, as a result of the secure nature of the village, properties retain and increase in value.
Property sales are very healthy, surpassing sales in the past three years.
