OPINION: Ugu has failed residents dismally
I disagree with Zama’s comment totally about the fanfare by the DA.
This letter is in response to Dr Rishigen Viranna and France Zama in the article on page two of last week’s Herald regarding Ugu’s service delivery.
I am not a politician and am not involved in politics at all .
I am a community member residing in the Ugu District of Port Shepstone.
I disagree with Zama’s comment totally about the fanfare by the DA, a desperate attempt to mislead and confuse members of the public and Ugu responding to the outcry by the communities about the provision of water during the festive season.
My reasons are as follows:
* We the community have been encountering water problems and no water for the past four years now.
* We the community have not stopped begging, pleading, partitioning with Ugu via all means of communication and protests/marches to Ugu offices, for the failure by Ugu to supply the community with their basic human right to drinkable, potable water supply and sanitation.
* Ugu has failed in this regard dismally.
* For the past four weeks the entire area of Oslo beach, Marburg and Port Shepstone have had no water or a muddy trickle.
* To try and contact the Ugu call centre or a Ugu human being is impossible ( it’s like they are all in hiding).
* Ugu continues to feed the community with repetitive stories.
* We have a pandemic on our hands and the coast if full of holidaymakers/tourists and still we have no water.
* Added to the water crisis: the Ugu billing system has been in a mess since March 2018, when they changed over to a new computer billing system.
* I personally have been fighting/disputing an Ugu monthly exorbitant water account since March 2018.
* I have approached every department, including the municipal manager, the mayor and the council , requesting that Ugu rectify their error and credit the interest charged over this period, with no assistance whatsoever .
* So Mr Zama : I’m afraid Ugu has a huge task ahead to rectify Ugu’s incompetency and inefficiency as a matter of urgency.
* Ugu’s service delivery is non existent and alas, Ugu still charges a full monthly water fee.
* I do have all my correspondence, proof of payments, e-mails and list of all personnel that I have approached and communicated with on file.
A very angry and frustrated consumer.
