Teen injured after diving into surf at Port Edward beach

He was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A 16-year-old teen from the Eastern Cape injured his back after diving into the surf and hitting his head on the seabed at Port Edward beach yesterday (Thursday).

NSRI Port Edward duty crew were activated following reports from an NSRI crewman at Silver beach of the incident.

Tokkie Livingstone, NSRI Port Edward deputy station commander, said their NSRI rescue vehicle together with paramedics responded.

“Our NSRI medics stabilised the teenager on the beach. He was secured onto a spinal board with cervical spinal immobilisation applied as a precaution,” she said.

He was brought to the NSRI Port Edward rescue base first aid room where medical treatment continued.

He was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
