Hlanganani mourns death of beloved educator

She was known for her in-depth knowledge, as well as the remedial and special needs of every learner in her class.

Hlanganani Preparatory School joined in on World Read Aloud Day last Wednesday by getting the Grade 7s to read aloud to the foundation group of learners.

Nobody is born with the immediate ability to read as it takes time and practice to develop and master the skill of reading. The better we read, the more we enjoy it.

By taking up the challenge to make reading aloud a priority throughout the school and following DEAR (Drop Everything And Read), educators are also motivated to establish an environment in the classroom and the library, to encourage learners to read knowing that “readers make leaders.”

Learners at Hlanganani pictured during World Read Aloud Day are (back, from left) Lihle Mdumo, Nhlanhla Mgoduka, Thandolwethu Mbhele and Menzi Cele with (middle) Luthando Dlamini, Siphosethu Duma, Litha Mbotshwa and Esimthandayo Mzobe as well as Agnes Acheapong (head girl) in front.

Meanwhile, it is with great sadness that Hlanganani reports the death of Grade 3 educator, Karen Hudson who died last Thursday.

Karen was involved in a most horrific car accident during the school holiday.

She was known for her in-depth knowledge, as well as the remedial and special needs of every learner in her class.

Karen monitored learners with great empathy and was known to have kept in touch with many of her former learners.

She also contributed to most school matters, always giving wise insights to problems at hand and spoke out about the injustices that her learners were often subjected to.

Karen leaves a huge gap among staff and will be sorely missed.
