OPINION: ‘Umzumbe must be declared state of disaster’

Lives, property, infrastructure and other essentials have been lost.

DEAR Editor;

The Democratic Alliance in Umzumbe would like to express our heartfelt condolences to all the families who lost their loved ones during the heavy downpour last week.

We want to commend DA member of Provincial legislature, Martin Meyer who had asked the government to declare our province a state of disaster.

We call on Umzumbe Municipality Mayor to kickstart the process of declaring Umzumbe a state of disaster so that government can give them a priority.

Lives, property, infrastructure and other essentials have been lost.

We also call on the mayor to put stringent measures in place on the use of relief funds when then come.

We do not want to see a repeat of what was evidenced on PPEs.

Now is the time for Umzumbe to demonstrate to all the residents that they are a caring, ethical, capable and accountable local government.

DA Ugu Councillor
