Cousins sentenced for Trafalgar house robbery

They tied up the family members and robbed them of their personal possessions, and fled after traumatising them.

Detective Sergeant Zolile Sibisi’s successful investigation of a house robbery has led to cousins, Sgqigqi Simphiwe Ngeleka and Sphamandla Tani Ngeleka being sentenced to 20 years’ and 15 years’ imprisonment respectively.

The Ngelekas, both aged 35, were found guilty of house robbery with intent to rob, and robbery with aggravating circumstances in the Port Shepstone Regional Court recently.

During the incident, a man (65) opened the door to let his dog out on Hood Street in Trafalgar on June 2, 2021 when two unknown men, brandishing knives, forced their way inside.

They tied up the family members and robbed them of their personal possessions, and fled after traumatising them.

Sibisi of Margate Detective Service successfully investigated the case and traced the men to Woza area in KwaNzimakwe where they were arrested.

Ugu District Detective Commander, Brigadier Bongani Sibiya was satisfied with the outcome of the case and stated that criminals will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and persons benefiting from the purchase of stolen property will also face possible imprisonment.
