The South Coast’s top cop, Ugu District Commissioner, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele has lauded a security company, law enforcement and the police for apprehending criminals recently.
She confirmed that to be victorious against criminals, law enforcement agencies and Saps need to work closely.
On Tuesday this week four suspects were arrested by Lazer 911 officers after a business burglary at a bottle store in Umtentweni. The company’s control centre received a multiple alarm activation at the Umtentweni premises at about 03:00. Their armed response unit was dispatched and saw suspects fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
Officers gave chase and one of the response officer’s performed a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) manoeuvre causing the suspects’ vehicle to overturn.
Police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge said the suspects broke into the bottle store by smashing the front door. “At least 10 suspects wearing balaclavas and gloves jumped out of three vehicles and pointed a firearm at the security guard. The alarm was activated when the door was broken. Personnel from a security company were alerted and chased the suspects. Four men were arrested and handed over to police. Some of the stolen liquor was recovered. Other suspects who escaped are being sought.”
The suspects are expected to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court soon, on a charge of business burglary.
In a second unrelated cas a 29-year-old man was arrested and charged for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle. An NP 200 which was stolen in Ntuzuma, northern KwaZulu-Natal during July 2019 was recovered by K9 police on Sunday, June 12. The officers were conducting patrols and spotted the vehicle near a hospital in Murchison.
The suspect appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on Monday this week, and the case was postponed for further investigation.
In another arrest police received information regarding a kidnapping in Kwa Madlala in Umzumbe on June 7. A description of the vehicles were handed to police and later spotted in Hibberdene. “The vehicles were searched and a handgun of which the serial numbers had been filed off was found in one of the vehicles as well as 12 rounds of ammunition. The handgun will be sent for ballistic testing. ”
The 39-year-old kidnap victim was also arrested after being found in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle. This vehicle was reported stolen in Umlazi in May. The three men appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court and the case was postponed to a later date.
