Crash involving three taxis leaves one dead and 10 injured in Port Edward

Many emergency personnel responded to the scene.

A crash involving three taxis and a car left one person dead, two seriously injured and eight with minor to moderate injuries yesterday evening (June 19).

Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911 said paramedics responded to the accident which occurred on the R61 intersection in Port Edward just after 17:00.

“Emergency services from Emergency Medical Rescue Services, Med-Evac, Ray Nkonyeni Fire Department and Law Enforcement also attended the accident scene,” he said.

On a separate note, Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service responded to the R102 at the Rethman Drive intersection (Umtentweni) for reports of a collision this afternoon (June 20).

When emergency services arrived they found two vehicles had been involved in a collision.

Craig Botha of Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service said paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that three people had sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.
