The community of Umbango, Marburg has been left ‘heartbroken’ and in shock after Sherille Naidoo (52) was stabbed to death, and her body dumped in bushes.
Her body was discovered by a member of the public who alerted a Lazer 911 Security officer. Reaction officer, Pradeep Ramdeen responded and contacted police.
Police spokesperson, Captain Adam Francis said the woman was dressed in a multi-coloured shirt and blue jeans and was found in Torwood Crescent, Umbango on Saturday morning, June 18.
“She had sustained several stab wounds to the torso. Police are investigating a case of murder.” The person responsible remains at large.
Naidoo was officially identified on Tuesday this week. She lived about 300m from where her body was discovered. She is survived by two brothers and her father.
A resident living nearby, said crime is out of control in the area. “What happened to Sherille is really sad. She was religious and often prayed for her family’s wellbeing and protection. She was concerned about her dad who was recently ill. We need to be more vigilant as crime is a major problem in Port Shepstone. We need stronger policing now or people will be victims like Sherille. “
Another resident said they had noticed drug addicts walking around Umbango and some of them are involved in house-breakings.
“People’s cars are broken into. Items from the yards are also taken. Why aren’t the police patrolling and taking crime seriously?” she asked.
A close school friend of Sherille’s, Rani Maistry said: “She was a quiet and a harmless person. She didn’t bother about fancy clothing or luxuries. She made sure her family’s meals were cooked before she went out. Sherille was devoted to her church and would love praying for anyone in trouble. It is just sad that she was taken from us in this gruesome manner. Rest in peace my dear friend. ”
Another close friend, Rodney Naidoo said Sherille was a wonderful and down to earth person. “She had a good heart and often prayed for the ill. I will miss her.”
Anyone with any information can contact investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Coenrad van Staden on 073 6259211 or 039-6881090.
