URGENT: Port Shepstone Regional Hospital’s emergency unit/casualty closed this weekend

Patients will be diverted to alternative healthcare facilities.

Port Shepstone Regional Hospital’s emergency unit and casualty will be closed on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11 in order for two generators, which assist in the event of power outages, to be replaced.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health said that the emergency unit/casualty will close its doors and patients will be diverted to alternative healthcare facilities, including closest clinics, community healthcare centres (CHCs) and district hospitals, within the Ugu District.

Patients’ visitors will not be allowed entry on both these days. Walk-in patients will be assessed and given the option of going to their local clinic or hospital for assistance.
The DoH apologised for the inconvenience but said that the project would bring considerable benefits and urged the public to be patient during this time.
