Police are reminding the public that online scams are still drastically increasing and that people should be more careful when buying or selling things online.
They have issued some of the following tips to prevent individuals from becoming scam victims:
Do not pay for cars and other items that are advertised on social media and adverts that you did not view. It is suggested that you rather meet the seller at a safe place, preferably outside a police station during the day with a witness to view the items for sale.
Never make a deposit for items that you did not view as well.
If you are selling an item online, do not accept EFT payments from strangers and scammers can produce fraudulent deposit slips.
Never give any personal details, such as banking information over a phone as well.
