Blue class at special needs centre bakes yummy treats
Baking also involves learning about safety in the kitchen.
The Blue class at Megan Du Plessis Special Needs Centre consists of seven learners between the ages of five and nine.
The Blue class loves Fridays, because it means playing board games or baking something delicious.
Baking also involves learning about safety in the kitchen. Understanding the dangers of hot water, the stove and oven are taught, and learners practise cutting, grating and mixing ingredients.
The importance of listening and following instructions are reinforced by following a basic picture recipe. So far the class has cooked spaghetti; baked and iced heart-shaped biscuits for Valentine’s Day; made hot dogs; and made mini pizzas, a favourite!
